I have a recipe for a quinoa salad coming up next on the blog.
It’s a colourful one, almost as colourful as this past weekend’s Pride Parade, so I thought I’d break things up a little and share these photos first from the 2015 Pride Parade.

Before I moved to Vancouver, everything I knew about the gay community I’d gleaned from watching the TV show Queer as Folk. Naturally, I thought life in the gay community was like a constant Pride Parade; then I moved to Davie Village in Vancouver’s West End and discovered that it was nothing like on TV, except of course, during Pride!

In the decade and change that I have lived here the festivities have gotten bigger and bigger, with street fairs and special events happening all week long, but the parade remains the most exciting of them all.

Over half a million people turn our relatively sleepy neighbourhood into party central during Pride (and the preceding Fireworks Festival). It can be as frustrating as it is fun, with the road closures and loud late night parties, but you learn to be a good sport about it.

So on Sunday we walked down towards the beach; it’s my favourite spot to watch the parade.
