La Pyramide Inversée

La Pyramid Inversee

If you enjoy conspiracy theories, and have read or watched Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, you probably think it’s plausible that maybe, just maybe, Mary Magdelene’s remains lie underneath the Pyramide Inversée.

Can you imagine? To think that she now rests underneath what is essentially a shopping mall – with an Apple Store and a Virgin Megastore.
Isn’t that ironic?
Actually, I don’t think that’s irony, but I’m pretty sure there’s some odd juxtaposition there.
I think there’s a sequel begging to be written exploring the hidden links that connects spiritualism and corporate retail giants to ancient religious sects.
(Please, don’t send me emails expounding this theory; I don’t really believe there’s a link or particularly care)

This inverted pyramid’s other function is to transmit light, it’s located at the Carrousel du Louvre below the glass Louvre Pyramid.
The Carrousel du Louvre is a shopping mall and there’s an alternate entrance to get into the Louvre, it usually has shorter line ups.

It was designed by I.M. Pei who also designed the main glass and steel Louvre Pyramid.
I watched an amazing documentary last year on I. M. Pei’s work on the Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar, I can’t recommend it enough.
You’ll be inspired by his genius, passion and youth (he’s 93!).

I found myself at the Louvre a lot on my vacation, and because the Carrousel is open late I always ended up there.
The courtyard surrounding the Pyramide Inversée is spacious, bright and mesmeric – you could easily lose track of time and spend hours here.
It’s also a great place to people watch
