I have a comment on my blog waiting to be approved, or deleted – I’m still undecided.
The commenter thinks it’s odd that I post pictures of myself on the internet ‘for everyone to see’ and goes on to ask what I’ll do when my youth fades.
I got a little upset when I first read it, I seethed at my computer…
“What would I do when my youth fades? Do you even know how old I am? Dude! My youth faded with the Clinton administration!â€
But I do agree with his first assertion, I think the word we’re looking for here is ‘vain’.
I accept that maybe it’s a little vain.
An old friend used to say, don’t worry about vanity; in the end it’s just that… vanity – it doesn’t mean anything and it all comes out in the wash.
Just like that passage in the bible says; it’s all meaningless.
Maybe the commenter is just concerned about me, what if I develop some sort of Dorian Gray syndrome?
If I were going to sell my soul for eternal youth, I probably should have done it a decade ago, these days I’ve pretty much come to terms with aging.
There are fifty and sixty year olds with blogs who posts lovely pictures of themselves daily.
It’s rather inspiring and I only hope I’m half as beautiful and elegant at that age.
So to my dear commenter, I say, yes, it’s probably odd that I post pictures of myself… but aren’t we all odd in some way?
And when ‘youth fades’, you embrace what comes next with the same aplomb.
