I woke up to an unpleasant but familiar sound this morning.
I thought I heard the rain outside and was overcome with dread for a second.
Turns out, it was just the sound of water from the garden hose from outside the window.
Whew! As hot and as unbearable (indoors) it’s been, I don’t think I can handle it if it rained right now.
The sky’s been so clear and blue and beautiful it’s mesmerizing; I don’t think we’ve had our fill of the warm weather just yet.
It’s almost amazing how incredibly contented the sunshine makes me.
Last Friday I stood in a long line and waited patiently for my turn to buy ice cream – and it wasn’t even for me!
On the seawall the other day a boy about eight or nine years old stuck out his finger to poke a shirtless pot-bellied man’s stomach.
They didn’t know each other, the man as if anticipating the move, quickly slaps the child’s hands away and goes on walking as if nothing happened.
And the little boy… moves on, looking almost instantly distracted by his next fascination.
It was the strangest, funniest and cutest moment bundled together.

These pictures are from a rainy day – a contrasting moment to go with these words; a self-reminder to smile and maybe laugh when the clouds return.
