I’m so out of here!

I don’t know why I do this to myself; I’m always in a spinning frenzy before my vacation.

Back when I was young and naïve I believed that the crazed panic that ensues before each vacation at work meant I was indispensable – now I know it just means I work with a lazy (or overworked) group who’d rather not take on the extra work. Can’t say I blame them.

My father has somehow managed to become the underlying focus of my trip without even trying. I don’t plan on seeing him and I wish everyone would respect that. I don’t want to make a big deal of it.

It’s simple really, it’s my vacation and I only want to see people (and things) that bring me joy. Why can’t they understand that?

San Francisco

San Francisco was awesome! Clearly, I needed more than a weekend to explore that amazing city.

The Vaillancourt Fountain Ferry Building
Fishermans Wharf Golden Gate Bridge

Here are a list of things I didn’t do:

Ride a cable car

Go to SF MOMA

Visit Alcatraz (I only passed by on boat)

Take a Ferry to Sausalito

Walk on the Golden Gate Bridge

Drive on crooked section of Lombard Street

Now I’m wiped out and up to my eyes balls in work. More later…

An Afternoon in Point Roberts

Summer took its time getting to us this year; but boy is she making her presence felt!

It’s been wet and crappy for so long that I feel a tad wishy-washy bemoaning the heat.

With summer comes exploration; I kicked off the season last weekend with a trip to Point Roberts.

It’s a small town in the US (WA State), but it’s only accessible  by land through Canada. Something to do with the 49th parallel, when they were divvying up the land.

I’ve always wanted to visit for its peculiar location; it’s about a thirty minute drive from downtown.

So there we were on a quite Tsawwassen Road, and then appears the border crossing.

Lighthouse ParkThe town has great beaches, campgrounds and a calm relaxing atmosphere to it. It’s a nice and unique place to get away to. It reminds me of the Sunshine Coast.

The gas there is cheap (US prices) and the Canadian$ is accepted all over.

I wonder why people don’t just drive there to buy gas, we’re seriously contemplating it.

I’m not sure about groceries although a colleague who lives around there said that’s where she gets her milk. There’s one general store.

There’s also cheap liquor and the stores are open on Sundays – most Vancouver liquor stores are closed on Sundays.

How I spent my Easter Holiday

I’ve been doing some of out of the ordinary things lately.

I’m back at work after a short hiatus and it feels different – as if I’ve been gone for months.

It was another trip down south this weekend. My regular trips to Seattle aren’t just because of my love of The Emerald City; there’s a bit of economics involved as it’s the most inexpensive destination in my vicinity.

It’s a cheaper alternative to Vancouver Island or the Okanagan Valley.

I should have added my time to the equation this trip; I sat in traffic most of the time!

I spent another two excruciating hours waiting at the border to get back into Canada.

The motel hotel we slept was sketchy at best; don’t let their website fool you.

Our key cards wouldn’t work TWICE, the staff was blasé, and security doesn’t seem to be a big concern for them.

We spent two nights and that was plenty enough, the lesson learnt…“Trip Advisor is my friend”

And if that wasn’t bad enough, we spent Friday (in traffic) looking for a “Ghanaian store” that turned out be a garage in some out of the way area in Seattle – I’m still amazed we were able to find it.

But it wasn’t all bad experiences; some soul altering moments developed from the trip.

Next month I’m going to Victoria.
