Shadows

We’ve been experiencing record breaking temperatures.
It’s been ridiculously hot and it doesn’t help that I work in a century old building that doesn’t have air conditioning.
It’s practically unbearable but I’m kind of reveling in it; I like that it’s still summer, that the beaches are packed, and that it’s always sunny and dry.

The weather will be perfect if it were just a few degrees cooler than it is right now, but like with most things in life, we can’t have it all; we’ll take the sun anyway we can.

I’m also learning how to take pictures under the bright sun, my outfit photos have become a good learning experience.
Finding that balance between standing under the harsh glare of the sun, and getting stuck in the shadows of the shade is what this summer’s photos has been about.

Sunsets

I haven’t done much lately except keep with my monotonous routine, which is making for a pretty frustrating existence.
I get a like this every summer; worry that I’m not doing enough and then give up and just bail out of everything.
I got the sweetest email the other day that ended with; “be sure to watch the sunset tonight…” this is the perfect reminder.
I don’t recall the last time I caught a sunset.

I saw the sunset tonight and always, it was beautiful. Sometimes, it really is the simple things.

This scene always makes me happy, this part of the seawall by the rock is probably my favourite place to sit and watch the sunset.

Cherish

Isn’t it a real bummer when things are going well, everything seems so perfect and great, and then life goes and throws you a curveball?

Maybe curveballs and life’s challenges are a reminder to cherish the good times and the people we love.

This video is from last summer, enjoy.

Snaps

I’ll soon be out there again, seeing through my glass, discovering and capturing beauty… because underneath it all there’s greatness.

Remembering Sunny Days

It rained all day today, and part of yesterday too. I’m not complaining this time because I’m certain the sun will return soon enough. It’s still summer after all!

I feel we complain about the rain and cold all year round and for the few months when the sun comes out, we can’t complain when it gets too hot.

Kitsilano Sun Bathing

Last week when it was sunny and beautiful; we walked down to Kits Beach, it felt like everyone came out. I couldn’t remember then what it was like when it rained. It was such a beautiful and glorious moment it made all those months of rain almost worth it.

It’s fun discovering the city on sunny days, I found and fell in love with this beaux style arts building on Vine Street. Built around the 1911, it used to be a Presbyterian Sabbath School and was converted to condos in the 1980s. It makes so much sense for Vancouver, that we’d turn a religious school building into condos.

Lavender

Sunny days make it easier to stop and smell the roses, or in my case the lavender.

I won’t be cynical about the rain this time.

I’ll wait patiently for the sun to return and then try to enjoy every minute of it.

It’s always sunny somewhere

200710231423_00542They say if you ignore something long enough it’ll eventually go away. I don’t know who says this but it’s true in a sense

I pretended it wasn’t raining for almost two weeks and I’m being rewarded with sunshine today.

I went for a walk this afternoon; things seemed brighter and shinier. People seemed to smile more; it was quite a unique feeling.

This got me thinking, there are places in the world where it’s sunny all year round, why am I not living there? Clearly life must be better in sunnier places.
