Good Eats Saturday

I love it when I get to sleep in on weekends (who doesn’t?)
I recently found a small French bakery close to me that’s pretty good; it might even impress the French.
It’s filled with rows of breads, cakes and delectable pastries made by French trained patissiers, and they have friendly staff too.

Pain au Chocolat ~ 3

I go in early in the morning wearing a giant coat over my pajamas, and order in French pretending I’m in Paris.
I’d get some good bread – usually pain aux cereales, some croissant and pain au chocolat.

85/365 Weekend Snacks #mostly365
I get a couple of macarons and save them with my stash for a late night treat; that way I don’t feel too bummed out when I pass on dessert at dinner.

Some Saturdays all I really want to do is to have a leisurely breakfast, it makes me feel like I’m on holidays.
I’ll crawl back into bed and watch French movies for a few hours.
I cherish those moments of solitude, and knowing that I’ll soon be stepping out into the ‘world’ rested, revived and feeling adventurous – it’s amazing how much you can get done on a good breakfast.

It’s Such A Perfect Day!

Well, isn’t today the most perfect of Saturdays.
A picture perfect day.

West Van

We’re headed to Ambleside Park for a little picnic.
I’m making this awesome maple cornmeal biscuits to take with us.

Maple Cornmeal Biscuits

Cornmeal & Whole Wheat Flour Ingredients

These maple cornmeal biscuits are super yummy!
It’s quick and easy to make with ingredients I have on hand.

Done Cornmeal Maple Biscuits

They come out of the oven buttery and crunchy on the outside.
The grittiness of the cornmeal really makes that maple flavour pop.

Italian Soda Popcorn
There’ll be popcorn and drinks too!
Now we just have to leave the house

Anyone remember this song? It mostly reminds me of Trainspotting which I was mildly obsessed with.
I leave you with this and hope you’re having a perfect day where ever you are.
And yes, I know the song is possibly about drugs ;-)

The Long Walk – A Pictorial Journey

I walk a lot, and apparently I live in a ‘walker’s paradise’ with a 97% walkable rating on Walk Score.
I went for a long, long walk one morning a couple of Saturdays ago.
I was gone for four inspiring hours and covered a little over thirteen miles.
I walked along the water from Vancouver’s West End to Jericho Beach

Water

I recently attended a talk on creating walkable and bikeable communities with a group of passionate and intelligent folks.
I don’t really consider myself passionate or intelligent when it comes to these (new) healthy lifestyle communities.
I do have a simple theory that people who live within beautiful landscapes walk more.
Now, I don’t have science backing me on this but I’m willing to bet my tattered sneakers that beautiful environments equals more time walking or biking.

Here are a ‘few’ pictures from my walk… enjoy!

The Erickson High Up!

Saturday! Water Display

The Erickson was named for its architect; Arthur Erickson
It was the perfect morning for a walk, the sun was out and everyone was in a pleasant mood.
Lots of relaxing activities on the seawall, not unusual for a sunny Saturday afternoon

Yaletown

Canoe Big Bird

There was a special water display that morning in Yaletown, it’s one of the city’s Dedicated Fire Protection System .

Stop II
The Stop – Charleson Park, False Creek

A Saturday... Sky Flying

Lined Volley

Kites on Vanier Park, volley on Kits Beach and the busy Burrard Inlet.

Blue

Kits pool and the city.

Mediterranean

Curve Field

Colourful Sail Clouds

I didn’t have the heart to post these pictures when the weather was crappy.
It’s not as depressing now that we have comparable weather.

Old Hastings Mill Store Musuem

The Old Hastings Mill Store was built in 1865, and moved by barge to it’s present location in Point Grey in the ‘30s.
It’s now a museum. I’ve passed by so many times and keep promising myself I’d visit.

Kits Beach

Sunny days are here!

Ahead Burrard Bridge

Away Surf
I cheated and took the Burrard Bridge back downtown instead taking the seawall through False Creek.
Got home sooner to enjoy the rest of my Saturday.
Click here to play my walk, you know… just in case the pictures didn’t do it for you
Or you need proof that I did indeed walk thirteen miles.
