A Gratuitous Outfit Post and Other Matters

I’m trying to make my Sundays a lot more than just a day I rest and prepare for my week to officially start.

I’ve decided it’s ridiculous to put off perfectly fun weekend activities because I want to get to bed early for Monday.

I’m going to have to start next week because this Sunday was spent resting and preparing for tomorrow.

I watched two fascinating movies over weekend; Steven Soderbergh’s Che (Part 1 & 2) and One Week with Joshua Jackson.

I loved One Week and its soundtrack; I’ve been playing Wintersleep’s Weighty Ghost all day.

And now, on to the outfit post… The blue skirt.

Wed 2 Dec - 6 Wed 2 Dec - 3

Wed 2 Dec - 4 Wed 2 Dec - 7

This skirt reminds me of spring, which is why I like wearing it in winter.

I’ve always liked this skirt, but the fit has always been awkward.

I think it needs to be hemmed just so it sits right at the knee.

Wed 2 Dec - 2 Camper Booties

Wearing:

Skirt: Gap
Blouse: Jacob
Black Cami: Old Navy
Socks: The Bay
Booties: Camper
Necklace: Liz Claiborne

You Gotta Be Here!

My first thought after seeing this Tourism BC Ad (featuring Michael J. Fox, Ryan Reynolds, Erick McCormack, Kim Cattrall, Steve Nash, and Sarah McLachlan) was;

“Oh my God, I want to live there!”

Except, I already live here!

The Ad is just in time for the winter Olympics which is a surprising 20 days away.

The Olympic torch has made it’s way throughout the country and it’s finally here in BC.

Most of us have come around to being excited about the games.

Five Rings Canada Place

It’s a nice afternoon, I’m think I’m going to go ride the Olympic Line streetcar to Grandville Island and take some pictures.

What I Wore: Casual Friday

We don’t really have a Casual Friday policy at my place of work because we’re pretty much casual all week round.

I do however try to wear jeans on Fridays because even though there isn’t an official dress code no one really wears jeans to work.

Dressing down on Fridays also sets a relaxed mood for the start of the weekend.

It’s extra nice when it’s not raining and I finally get to wear my wide-legged pants without fear.

Fri 11 Dec - 10

Wearing:

Wide-Leg Jeans: Gap
Long Sleeve T-Shirt: Gap
Teal T-Shirt: The Limited
Cropped Jacket: H&M
Scarf: Petticoat Lane Market
Shoes: Stéphane de Raucourt

Fri 11 Dec - 9 Fri 11 Dec - 12

If you look closely you’d notice my square-toe boots – these are from a couple of years back when they were quite fashionable.

I discovered this amazing shoe store when I moved to Vancouver; Stéphane de Raucourt had elegant, beautifully made shoes.

The designs were original and exclusive, the designer was local, there were two locations (Robson Street and Oakridge Centre) and each location had different shoes.

I’d spend entire afternoons browsing, the shoes were so chic, eclectic and well constructed.

I used to dream I’d own several pairs, I’d collect them like pieces of art, I promised myself.

Unfortunately I just got two pairs before the stores shut down. Mr De Raucourt moved on to real estate.

I wonder if he still designs shoes, doesn’t he miss it?

Fri 11 Dec - 4 Fri 11 Dec - 2

Fri 11 Dec - 5 Fri 11 Dec - 1

The gold rose ring I got from The One Of a Kind Show.

The watch is 21 Must de Cartier one of my favourite pieces, it’s simple and elegant.

Maker Person

I have a passionate aspiration to make my own things; I always have.

I admire women who effortlessly make everything from scratch.

My friend Akua recently had a baby; she and her husband took a woodworking class, built a crib, rocking chair and tiny baby furniture. She makes clothes from repurposed vintage fabrics and makes her own soy milk and yoghurt.

Obviously, I want her life – if only I could be that innovative.

I get such joy and inspiration from the little projects, even though I don’t always finish them.

Fabric for Sewing

Last weekend my mom and I went shopping for fabrics, I’ve decided that I’m going to make my own clothes.

We made some pillowcases the other day and it felt great! It turned out pretty and I didn’t have to spend a fortune.

Sadly, I don’t know how to sew, but I’m going to learn… after the Olympics when we can move about freely again.

I bought some patterns, I’m subscribed to a few sewing blogs and I’ve just discovered the most awesome fabric store.

I’m going to take a stab (with my mom’s help of course) at sewing my very first dress, and that’s even before I start my sewing lessons!

Mon 21 Dec - 2 Mon 21 Dec - 4

I’m thinking a simple dress like the one worn here, it doesn’t require sleeves and doesn’t seem complicated.

I imagine I can get into the complex stuff once I take a few lessons.

Mon 21 Dec - 1 Mon 21 Dec - 3

I’d love to be able to showcase my creations.

I’m going to sew dainty summer dresses of joy!

You just wait and see!

The Kids Are Alright

The Pacifier

Someone asked me recently if I liked kids.

Frankly, I was offended – who doesn’t like kids?

That’s like asking if I clobber baby seals in my spare time.

I adore kids; they’re magical little people of awe and wonder.

Just because I don’t want a kid of my own doesn’t mean I hate children, I don’t know where people get that idea from.

Of course, I love children, and they love me too!

I’m yet to meet a kid who doesn’t think I’m awesome.

Babysitting - Brycen & Kelvin

See? Told ya!

K Three

This weekend was playtime with Kelvin and his brother Bryce; you might remember Kelvin from here (when he was born) and here.

Well, he’s a big boy now, he talks and everything.

Luckily he still thinks I’m the coolest auntie ever, basically because I let them do whatever they want.

(Seriously though, do parents ever get tired of saying “Stop it”?).

Smiles Pointers

Us Brothers

I had a blast with the little guys; we ran around tiring ourselves out, ate junk food, played games and watched tv.

It was fun and very tiring, I can’t imagine doing this every day – parents are saints.

A work colleague brought her beautiful newborn to work yesterday.

I can’t wait till that beauty is a little older – we’ll wear pretty matching tulle dresses and practice putting on make-up (but that’s just my dream).
