Notes on a dying year

Here we are… Day 7 of the Christmas Holiday with three days to the end of the year (but you already knew that.). I’m still holed up in my bunker; haven’t ventured out since the 25th. (Help! send reinforcement) I’m not quite sure where all my plans evaporated to; I was supposed to do so much… like sit in little cafes with my miniature laptop and write and run. I’ve ran only once. Oh well you know what they say about the best laid plans. When I was younger, I used to think it meant only only men and mice planned – which didn’t make any sense to me. Oh the glory of simpler days!

You only live twiceSo back to the issue at hand… I’ve been watching the holiday James Bond marathon instead. I never thought about this before but what is it with the Networks playing James Bond Movies around Christmas time? It’s been great, I’m watching movies I watched as a child, it’s very cool.

My PVR recorded You Only Live Twice twice, I think it’s a sign; probably some sort heavy-handed metaphor regarding excessiveness, I just haven’t figured it out yet. I set it to record only once.

Christmas was fun, not like I’d have liked to spend it but good all the same. I’ve always loved Christmas… for what it stands for. That the birth of a baby thousands of years ago, in a far far away land would make humankind gather, break bread and be nice to each other is in itself a miracle. I don’t care what they’ll let you believe; it isn’t some non-denominational holiday it’s very much rooted in the faith and belief of a people. I don’t get what the all the fuss is about, you either celebrate it or you don’t and it technically has nothing to do with Santa or the Tree so it shouldn’t really matter.

The gifts weren’t bad either and they keep trickling in, Yesterday, I got a digital photo keychain from she-who-would-have-been-my-sister-in-law. Bless her kind heart, she obviously talks to Santa.

Now, on to the New Year.

I’ve been thinking about resolutions lately, I usually snicker at people who make them especially around the New Year, but this year I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try and test my resolve. I figured if I made a resolution like a wish (which would mean I couldn’t tell you) then maybe the magical-wish-granting-fairy would make it come true and I probably wouldn’t have to do much. It’ll be like an extra boost.

Wounds

They say time heals all wounds, personally, I think time eventually trivializes our issues, making wounds less hurtful.
I’ve been thinking about my “wounds” lately and how I’d forgotten most of them or how I came to have them.
Why am I afraid to say that I’m in a good place? it almost feels wrong to admit that I don’t hurt anymore. I don’t want to jinx it perhaps. I’m not afraid of change, in fact I welcome it – I just don’t want to have to acknowledge change sometimes. It’s sad, I know but that’s how I am.
I thought about our conversation a little while afterwards. How we reminisced about the past; “we’ve come a long way, baby!” she said.
I tried to remember the pain, the hurt, the screams, yells and worse of all the disappointments. It was all irrelevant now, time had made it so.
Time, I hope has made me less of the self-righteous judgmental person
I was.

My Eee

This weekend I got myself an early Christmas present.

The Asus Eee PC.

I walked through snow and sleet to get it; that’s how much I wanted one.

They had a few still stocked at my local A&B Sound for $399.99 CND, for once we’re getting the same price as the Americans.

It’s just like your laptop except runs it Linux (it can run XP too), it’s seven inches and weighs 0.92kg.

I’ll do a proper review in the next couple of weeks, right now I’m very much in love with it but I’ve used it for about a total of two hours.

It’s perfect the way it is but if I were to make changes, I’ll come preloaded with a blog editor and there’ll be a way to sync it with my HTC Prophet (right out of the box), and maybe have Bluetooth.

World Aids Day

There’re a lot things you could do for World Aids Day, the most important thing you could do for yourself and ultimately for mankind is to GET TESTED!

Be safe where ever you are.
